Our family needs help raising money for our Yorkie , Koi. She needs surgery for a liver shunt and needs all the help she can get and soon!

We bought our little Yorkie, Koi, five and a half years ago. It was her and our other Yorkie. We discovered they both were born through inbreeding. Unfortunately, it was too late for our first Yorkie, Kocoa. He had passed away with kidney failure. At this visit, our vet diagnosed Koi with a portosystemic shunt (liver shunt).

She was diagnosed two years ago. Our vet discussed with us the details about surgery. There would be no way around it or she'd die from toxins building up in the liver . During these two years, she was taking the medicine Lactulose and was on other antibiotics. She seemed to be fine for these years.

We are struggling financially, due to being victims of Hurricane Katrina and overwhelming bills from the storm and still struggling. We have been living in Las Vegas ever since. We have been trying to steady our life and trying to get back on our feet. Our money is tied up with bills leaving no room to save for this surgery. Also, not given the option to make payments. They ask to have the money upfront.

Up until now, Koi has shown no clinical signs. But seem to be in this past week. She's not acting like her normal loving self. She is usually a friendly, active, chipper dog who loves to talk. We now know time seems to be running out. She has been the little joy and blessing that keep us happy through all these hardships. We'd be devastated to lose her. We have all the medical records for everyone to see, all we ask for is a little help and support. We have a little maltese, please don't leave her little friend alone.

We beg of all of you to reach out and help little Koi. She is the sweetest joy we've had. We thank you so much for taking this time and consideration.

- With love , the Mixon family.
