FYI: 102 cases of PML have been reported among 82,732 patients treated with Tysabri worldwide through February 28, 2011.

The Courtney Project was established by Reginald Todd Hewitt after his 31 year old daughter Courtney was misdiagnosed with PML, a rare viral disease that attacks and destroys the white matter in the brain. Currently, 85 to 90% of our world's population carries the virus which causes PML!

Mission Statement:

The mission of The-Courtney-Project.Org. is to help prevent PML by early detection for the JC Virus. If detected and treated early enough HIV patients diagnosed with PML can continue to live a productive normal life! With your contribution we can make this happen all around the world! Please give generously and help us produce and circulate necessary tools, ie.,educational videos, printed literature and distribution of, "Courtney's Story", to schools to help educate others about PML/HIV/AIDS.

In 2008, one week after her 31st birthday, my daughter Courtney, a single mother of four small children began displaying symptoms of a stroke. After weeks of being treated and pawned from doctor to doctor some of which were self proclaimed specialist, she was finally diagnosed with PML. Literally by a Google search, I diagnosed her with PML myself. She and I together went to see her doctor (specialist). When I asked him if he had ever heard of PML, his response was no. After informing him of my findings, he excuses himself and does his own Google search. Knowing what I had learned from my own research, he had the audacity to assure us both that Courtney would be as good as new in a matter of weeks!

Well, this is what happened in that matter of weeks!

Loss of ability to speak, see, swallow and walk. She did retain the ability to hear for awhile, which was then replaced with only the ability to cry!
