Assist Rafael Brea Jr. as he recovers from a traumatic brain tumor by donating as he fights to regain his cognative and motor skills

Rafael Brea Jr., lovingly known as Ray to his friends and family, is currently undergoing the fight of his life. In the early hours of September the 26th, 2011 he was discovered on the side lawn of his sister Violette's house convulsing from the aftermath of a seizure. Ray had lain outside the cold Pennsylvania night and early dawn unable to move or yell for help his cell phone laying in the grass a mere two feet away.

He was rushed to the emergency room at Geinsinger Wyoming Valley. Two hours later, an MRI and CAT scan determined that he was suffering with an undiagnosed brain tumor and which, by its size and location, had been steadily growing in his brain for the past 10 years. The discovery of this tumor answered many questions regarding Ray's sometimes bizarre behaviour, which was usually associated to his eccentricities.

That same day Ray underwent an invasive procedure to relieve the pressure of the brain fluid that had surrounded the tumor. While Ray was under a local anesthetic they drilled into his head and inserted two drainage tubes through his skull into the brain. He had no idea what was being done to him as they shaved and prepped him for the procedure, nor what they had done when finished.

On September the 28th at 7 in the morning he underwent major brain surgery in an attempt to remove the tumor, which was the size and shape of an egg. The surgery took six hours. They were unable to remove the entire tumor, only removing the inside leaving the membrane intact. His neurologist stated it was difficult to remove it all without damaging the healthy brain tissue. The surgery is deemed a success.

He will be subjected to many more MRI's and CAT scans in the future to monitor his brain in case there is regrowth of the tumor in which case chemotherapy would be necessary.

Ray had been successfully employed for the past ten years as a Senior Customer Service Representative for an internationally known food company. He never missed a day of work and received many awards for both attendance and job performance. His job was a source of pride for him. He is no longer able to work,

Ray is a very proud dad to Andrew aged 13, who looks more like his dad everyday. They have a really unique relationship where they are more like brothers, when they are together there is constant laughter in the room. That sound is truly missed.

Ray's family and friends are uniting to raise money to help alleviate his financial burden as he fights to come back from the effects of a traumatic brain tumor.

Won't you join us?

The funds that are raised will be used to cover medical costs and related expenses that will not be covered by traditional insurance such as wheelchair transport to and from testing and therapy.

Ray has been transferred to a rehabilative facility effective 10/18/11 where he will be provided with 24 hour care. He needs your prayers and support.
