The family and friends of Harry Bertrand Jr are uniting to raise money to help with his battle against Multiple Meyloma.

Harry had been in pain for months and lost quite a bit of weight and was then diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in August of 2011. Soon his legs began to get shaky and they discovered a spot on his spine that was compressing his nerves. This caused him to be paralyzed from the waist down. He began getting radiation to shrink the spot on his spine. After the spot decreased he went through Physical Therapy and learned how to walk again. He got to where he was walking all over the place with a walker for safety and in the meantime was getting chemo treatments as well.
Things got bad again when he began having double vision and came down with pneumonia. He went back into the hospital where they discovered another spot at the base of his skull that was compressing optic nerves causing the double vision. He was then started on radiation treatment for this new finding. It wasn't to long after that he began having a very difficult time breathing and was eventually taken to the ICU, where he stayed for 2 weeks, and put on a breathing mask. When things didn't improve with the mask he was put on a ventilator to help him rest and get his oxygen levels up. While on the vent there were a few procedures done to clear his lungs and the area around his lungs from mucus and fluid. After those procedures were done he was able to come of the ventilator and eventually got to where he could breath on his own again.
He is currently getting chemo and therapy in order to help him regain strength he lost while in the ICU.

*Update* - Harry was released from the hospital on Dec. 23rd, right in time for Christmas! He is back at home now.

*1/30/12 Update* - Because of insurance changes and a new $3000 deductible, Harry had to quit going to his physical therapy appointments. In order for him to be able to do a stem-cell treatment he needs to be able to walk so it is important that he finds a way to get back into therapy. We would love to be able to raise enough funds to allow him to do that.

Thank you in advance for your donation and continued prayers and support for our dad. It really means alot!
