The family of Rocky the chihuahua are banding together to raise money to help with costs associated with a life-saving liver shunt surgery.

Rocky is an approximately 5-pound chihuahua that was picked up as a stray by a local animal shelter. At the time he was found, he weighed only about 3 pounds. My sister, who currently works part-time to take care of her child in addition to attending school full-time to become a nurse, saw Rocky's picture and immediately fell in love with him...she was his nurse-y and his savior.

Unfortunately, on the evening of Sunday, November 14, Rocky fell gravely ill. He was taken to the local emergency vet clinic, but his condition began to worsen. The next morning, he was urgently taken to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital where he was diagnosed with a possible liver shunt. Although he is currently stable (however with remnants of his horrible illness still affecting his daily life), the only way he can return to being a normal, happy dog is with a liver shunt surgery.

The cost is a lot and something my sister (and myself) can not raise quickly enough to get this surgery urgently for Rocky before his condition continues to deterioriate, and we lose this little angel forever.
