Kenden was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes October 29,2009 at the age of eight. In the last two years he has shown more courage than most children should even know, Kenden is the Utah Ambassador for The Diabetes Dude, you may check out his website at 1 diabetes, an autoimmune disease where Kenden's own body, for reasons unknown, attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells of his pancreas, Kenden has an insulin pump that delivers insulin 24/7, This keeps him alive, but it often causes his blood sugar levels to change quickly and without warning. Blood sugar that is too high results in an emergency room visit for DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis). It also places Kenden at risk for long-term complications such as heart and kidney disease. Low glucose levels keep Kenden from being able to function and think clearly. When Kenden's blood sugar drops too low, he can go into a insulin coma, a service dog that will be trained to detect and alert for changes in his blood glucose levels. A D.A.D dog will provide Kenden with a greater level of safety and independence and detect when his sugar levels are off. We are in the process of getting a D.A.D "diabetic alert dog" for Kenden the puppies were born on February 27th, and Kenden will have his puppy around the middle of May, we will be doing alot of the training ourselves. We have raised some of the money, but we still need some more donations. Kenden is very excited, any donations would truly be appreciated. ♥
