This is for raising funds to support the impoverished in Jamaica. Anything you can give will help. Thank you so much, Justin Fecke

Dear Friend,

Please allow me to introduce you to a new and exciting volunteer project happening at Loyola University New Orleans. I am part of a group of twelve Loyola students who will be participating as IGNACIO VOULNTEERS working with and for the impoverished people of Kingston, Jamaica. We will meet weekly all fall semester and will then give up 12 days of our winter break to participate in volunteer service work in tough urban areas of Kingston, Jamaica.

Contrary to its advertising to lure tourists, Jamaica is an island nation of scarce resources and intense poverty. The city of Kingston is a crowded urban area where hundreds of thousands are living in the deepest poverty. It is a city where there are very limited social services, and where many people live seeking the basic necessities of life. While we can do very little, anything we do will help.

On this trip in December, we will be running a camp during the Christmas holidays in Kingston, Jamaica. Working alongside volunteers from the University of West Indies in Kingston, we will run a week long camp which is geared towards getting to know the people and culture of Jamaica through creative academics in our morning sessions and exciting sporting activities in the afternoons. This camp will also aid in providing an outlet for the children in an impoverished community in Kingston who either sit at home in fear of crime and violence in their communities or are themselves influenced during the time off from school to partake in these acts.

In all of our work, we will be doing real acts of mercy -- feeding the hungry, clothing the needy, caring for the sick -- and working with those disadvantaged men, women, and children who are truly in need.

We are each responsible for raising $1200 each to cover the cost of our transportation, room and board, and supplies. We ask for your financial assistance in sponsoring us.

Anything you would be able to give would help us volunteer our time and energy working with those who have less. Please consider supporting us in this important work. Any amount will help. Checks should be made payable to “Loyola University New Orleans,” and are tax-deductible. Thank you in advance for any contribution you can give.
