Please help offset/assist with medical/daily living expenses to alleviate the financial burden.

There are moments in our lives when we realize that everything from this point on will never be the same...The day my mother had a stroke is one of those.

The morning was May 18th and I woke to my cellphone ringing at 2am."This is you mother", a slurred, barely recognizable voice said, "I'm having a stroke, I'm scared, I just want you to know I love you". "I love you too", I sobbed into the phone line. "Its going to be ok", I chant until the phone line goes dead.

Debra had a brain steam stroke (the brain stem controls all basic activities of the central nervous system: consciousness, blood pressure & breathing) and had to undergo carotid artery surgery to prevent a frontal lobe stroke. She was left with a severe left side deficit. After 6 days in the hospital and 2 weeks in inpatient rehabilation, she was released to go home. She has been diagnosed with peripheral artery disease and coronary artery disease. She will need to undergo many, many more vascular surgeries just to preserve her current quality of life. Her current life consists of being driven back and forth to rehab to try and gain movement back in her left side. She has very little arm/wraist/hand movement but has shown steady progress in willing the left leg to move. We applaud every inch as a major accomplishment.

Debra has worked for a decade plus in the VA Medical system assisting our most vulnerable heroes get the medical treatment they need. She needs help now too. Even with helath insurance the medical bills continue to mount. Doctors are estimating 6-9 months before she can return to work with limited duty. She currenlty does not qualify for any programs (such as disability) as of now. With the endless list of medical and personal supplies, the family is asking for some support to offset the current financial burden.

Please help Debra along this long path of recovery. All your prayers and well wishes are appreciated
