The family & friends of Mona Hodges are uniting to raise money to help with medical & living expenses as she battles lung & brain cancer.

My mom, Mona Hodges, was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer in mid May of this year after entering the hospital. She also learned that it had already metastasized to her brain and there were 5 lesions. She began radiation treatments on May 19th and completed them on June 7th. She lost her long beautiful hair by the second week but that didn’t break her spirit. However, since radiation she has lost muscle in her legs and is only able to walk with the assistance of a walker and some days not at all. This has brought her down emotionally being as she has always been a very strong and independent woman as many of you know. She also has pain in her legs most days.

On Monday, June 27th, she had a portacath inserted in her chest for chemo treatments that she hopes to begin on July 5th. However, her overall health has to be good enough to make it through the chemo.

She’s been eating very well thanks to her sister, Mickie Riley, who has been an angel through all of this. She goes over daily to make sure mom eats, takes her meds and helps with any other household chores. Mom’s sister-in-law, Delynda Hodges and brother Matt Hodges have also been awesome helpers in assisting with her daily care. I come in on the weekends to help relieve them but am very grateful for all their support as well as the support of other family (like her nephew Monty who makes sure her yard is mowed and had her a/c repaired) and many other friends.

I’ve set up this fundraiser to hopefully help alleviate some stress from mom financially. She’s on a limited income with Social Security and has still not been approved for Medicaid or Medicare. She’s been a artisan/craftsman for the past 25 years and has no retirement or savings. Her meager social security alone does not cover the costs of her home and utilities as well as out-of-pocket medical and more importantly – necessary medications she has to take daily. Some of which are outrageously priced for someone on such a limited income.

Please know that we appreciate any and all donations no matter how small. Every little bit helps, she and us (her family) are grateful and thankful for not only your financial support but your thoughts and prayers as she fights this horrific disease. As some of you might know, mom's long-term prognosis is not good. However, we remain hopeful that she will beat the odds, and grateful for each day we are given. God bless you all!
