Help send Sarah to Ecuador!

Dear Family, Friends and Supporters:

This April I will be traveling to Riobamba, Ecuador for a weeklong medical mission trip, which is being coordinated through my Physician Assistant program at Stony Brook University. This will give me an opportunity to practice my newly acquired skills in an area that truly needs it. Classmates that went on the trip last year have expressed how life changing this experience is; both for the people of Ecuador and the group of students. The group that went last year was greeted by a line of hundreds of people who had traveled from all over the country to seek medical treatment! Our group’s main responsibility will be clearing patients, children and adults of all age-groups, for surgery, as well as providing general wellness care and screening for diabetes and hypertension. I feel so fortunate to have an opportunity to serve this underprivileged population!

As one might expect, there are many expenses associated with trips like this. Airfare, daily transportation, insurance, and food are among the many financial responsibilities that each individual is responsible for. When all is said and done, each student will be paying about $1,200 out of pocket. Any donations that are collected above what is needed for my trip will be donated to the general group fund and will go towards purchasing supplies and other necessities.

No amount is too small—every donation counts!

Our trip is being coordinated through an organization called Blanca’s House. The link to their website is:

Feel free to check it out and see all the good work they are doing around the world. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to e-mail me at: I will be writing a small journal and taking tons of pictures while I’m there and can share both with anyone who is interested when I get back. Again, thank you all so much for your love and support.
