The friends and family of Lourdes Fernandez are uniting to raise money to grant her last wish

A message from Mayling:

Lourdes Fernandez was diagnosed with stage 3b non-small cell lung cancer on August 8th, 2011. My mother’s cancer is an extremely aggressive form, and her condition is deteriorating rapidly.

My mother has been in and out of the hospital for the past two months, and has faced numerous life-threatening complications, including blood clots, fluid in her heart and lungs, and blockage of veins throughout her body. During the course of her treatment, she has undergone multiple procedures, including the installation of a permanent drain in each lung, three surgeries during one week, and chemotherapy. Unfortunately, none of these treatments have been able to slow my mother's deterioration, and after extensive soul-searching, we have decided to discontinue my mother's treatment and return to my home where she will undergo hospice care during her final weeks.

The purpose of this fundraiser is to attempt to fulfill my mother's last wish. As we have begun making preparations for her passing, she has expressed that her deepest desire for her final resting place is to be buried in the cemetery plot where her grandmother rests. My mother's grandmother very much filled the role of mother for my mom, and my Mima, as we called her, raised not only my mother and her siblings, but me and my brother as well. My mother began paying for this plot, but due to the fact that she has been disabled for many years and has been struggling financially, she stopped making payments some time ago, and the cemetery is now demanding the sum listed above for my mother to be able to be buried in her plot.

I have had to deal with all of the aspects of my mother's illness almost by myself, as both my father and brother are incarcerated. I have come to the harsh realization that on my own, I will be unable to fulfill my mother's last wish.

I am already so grateful for the moral support that I have received throughout my mother's illness from my extended family and my friends. I cannot begin to express the gratitude that I will have for any contributions that will help my mother's last wish come true.
