Dear family & friends of Christian Furman we are raising money to KEEP CHRISTIAN CLEAN. We need a wet room that will fit his wheelchair

My son Christian is 9 years old with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (dmd for short). Tracy and I began fostering him at 3 years of age, he was a sibling group of 4, we have since adopted 3 of them for a total of 5 adopted children). I knew something wasn't right with the way my son's body moved but from age 3 to 5 no doctor would recognize it and "chalked" it up to him being a foster child--a traumatic past--confidence issues--he will outgrow it. He didn't outgrow it and with persistence he was finally diagnosed one year after his adoption. The safe world he had come to know was shattered by DMD. He is at a point in his disease where he can no longer stand or walk. We are currently starting fundraising efforts to remodel a space in our home as a wet room (shower space) and make the existing bathroom wheelchair accessible. He is on a steroid and as his muscles weaken and he gains weight he "thinks" I will drop him while lifting him in and out of the bathtub. The simple task of brushing his teeth is often something he skips over because he can't get his powerchair up to the sink. Our home also needs a stair lift so he can continue to sleep in his bedroom for a few more years . The plan to relocate him to the main level of our home will come when he is reliant upon machines and 24 hour care. But currently, ALL of our bedrooms are on the 2nd floor.

****We don't have TIME to spare. There's no cure or treatment for DMD & most boys lose the fight to Duchenne between the ages of 16 and 21.....a few do exceed the life expectancy. So hope is prevalent. My husband, Tracy, is disabled and I am the only major wage earner supporting a family of 13. I have a really good job and I am THANKFUL for it but when considering that insurance doesn't cover certain items my son needs-- my paycheck isn't enough.

*****It takes a village to raise a child... It takes a village with money to raise a child with special needs. I often wondered why God placed Christian in a family of meager means but then my MOMMA BEAR SYNDROME KICKS IN STRONG...and I know God put him right where he belongs. Thank you for your support. Please remember that your donation is helping an individual child and therefore isn't tax deductible but the gift of your dollar is helping Christian in ways beyond belief.
