A prominent, local attorney is willing to take the case for PSL residents to be able to keep chickens. Please help us in our cause.

PSL CLUCK needs your help - please help fund legal defense now!

Port St. Lucie C.L.U.C.K is a group of concerned citizens and sustainable living enthusiasts working together to have their right to raise backyard chickens, particularly laying hens, to produce fresh eggs for use and consumption by private residents, who reside within the City limits of Port St Lucie, Florida. We have the right to farm in Florida - Statute 823-14.

The city's selective enforcement of draconian ordinances was challenged last year when some citizens stood their ground with the City Council. At that time it was discovered that the "code" referring to chickens was changed in or about 1992 from describing them as "DOMESTIC/PETS" to the current, "FARM ANIMALS," in order to rid the city of what they deem as "undesirables." The Realtor's Association claims backyard chickens decrease property values, which is totally unfounded.

In the end, even though the wording that was changed in the City's Code was improperly done and there should have been a "grandfather clause," the present sitting Council was not honest with its citizens about being in favor of chicken keeping and voted down the wishes of the people in favor of that of the Realtor's Association, and in the absence of the Vice Mayor who was not present for the vote, a clear violation of her office.

Whether you want chickens or not, the issue is Property Rights. We have a myriad of laws to control animals that are not kept properly, but it is outside the scope of government to control your privacy, what you eat and what you do on your private property as long as you are not infringing on another person's rights.

The City of Port St. Lucie has issued a citation to a local resident for keeping hens on her property. A prominent local attorney is wiling to take the case if PSL C.L.U.C.K. can cover court fees.

This is a good opportunity to bring the issue of backyard hens before the courts. The City Commission was unwilling to change the ordinance, but they don't have the last word on legal issues. The courts do.

Please join our stand against those who are fighting to limit our rights and freedoms. We stand together today, or we hang separately tomorrow.

Will you please donate today to establish a legal defense fund? Being able to cover the court costs would allow this issue of personal freedom to get a hearing before a more impartial body. Please help by donating today!
