The family of Wes Myers is uniting to raise money to help with his medical and recovery expenses.

The family of Wes Myers is uniting to raise money for his medical and rehabilitation expenses. On July 27th, 2011, Wes was admitted to the hospital with an aortal dissection. He has had seven surgeries in total, two which were surgeries to replace his entire aorta. Unfortunately, he has developed many medical problems, including paralysis, and continues to battle infections as well as other medical issues.

Wes is a determined man, one who loves his family and his life! He has beat the odds more than once during this time, constantly amazing his doctors with his determination to live and to get back to his life. The life that he loves, being a husband and father, a Cub Scout Leader, and an all around handyman. His passion is restoring old lawn tractors and he hopes to be working back in his garage on them one day.

Wes recently had to face the loss of his job. He was very fortunate to have many co-workers who donated their own leave time to him which allowed him to have paid leave time until Dec. 27, 2011 at which time his income ended and his employee health insurance will be ending in January, 2012. His wife, Kelly, closed her inhome daycare business when Wes became sick and has been by his side every day for the last five months taking care of him as well as their family and has worked a part-time night job ever since to help with bills. Wes will have "breaks" from his stay at the rehabilitation hospital to come home then return for additional rehab. During those times he will be home, Kelly will have to take a leave of absence from her part-time job in order to care for Wes.

He or his family never imagined that when he was admitted to the hospital in the middle of summer that he would still be there in the winter months. He is currently in a rehabilitation hospital where he will receive breaks to come home for a short period of time and then return for more rehab. His wife has made preparations for him coming home, cleaning out the house, making room for his wheelchair, and seeing to it that he has the medical equipment and care he will need while at home.

Wes' goal is that he will walk again and be able to return to the life that he loves.

I continued to be amazed by my "little" brother's will to live and improve his medical situation. I know that I probably would have given up long ago. He and his family have gone thru so much pain and suffering, and I pray that God will shower them with many gifts of love. I hope that everyone that reads his story will find it in their heart to provide whatever support that they can.

Hi Wes, Not sure you even remember me from high school. I joined during our sophomore year. I was involved in a hit and run accident 2 1/2 years ago when I was hit by a pick up while on my bike. I was air lifted to a trauma hospital and had 7 surgeries over the course of 2 weeks - 3 to stop the bleeding ( I needed 30 units of blood) and 4 to repair bones. I have titanium in my left leg, right hip, wrist and 2 rods and many hooks in my back. I was in ICU for 4 weeks and in a rehab hosp for 3 weeks - nothing compared to you. :) I also was in a wheelchair and then a walker when I came home. The rehab continued for months, and I still can't do everything I did before since I ended up with a spinal cord injury; however, God is good! I can walk, exercise, and take care of my family. I'm telling you all this to encourage you to lean on Christ - He has been my strength and He will be yours. I am praying for you and your family.

Dear Wes and Kelly, I've been praying for strength for both of you since Kelly wrote to me and told me about all of your surgery's. Wes I remember our years when we were all much younger and nothing stopped us. Through God all things are possible! Praying for you to get movement back in your legs and that you will be up walking and enjoying the things you like doing once again. I can't believe you're a grandpa already! Hang in there you two. Keep praying as we all are and keep the faith. As the song says "One day at a time sweet Jesus that's all I'm asking from you. Just give me the strength to do everything that I have to do! Your friend, Aundrea
