Loved ones band together to raise funds for Supporting Laura Triem Trust to assist with expenses after a devastating light rail accident.
On Friday November 4th 2011, 21-year-old Colorado resident Laura Triem was struck by a RTD Light Rail train at Speer and Stout.
Laura's injuries are extensive and it is expected that the treatment of these injuries will amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses. Laura and her family need all the help that they can get to not only address these costs but also to ensure the proper rehabilitation treatments are accessible to help this vibrant young woman make a full recovery.
Laura is in her first rehabilitation facility after recieving treatment at Denver Health and continues to make remarkable progress in her recovery.
*Please note that donations made to persons or families in need are not tax deductible. Though we continue to seek opportunities to offer tax deductible options for donations to Laura's cause it is highly regulated and very difficult to meet the government requirements for this. We hope that this in no way hinders you from donating to Laura's cause and thank you in advance for your generosity.
Also, donations made through the Caring Bridge site go to support the service that the site provides but do not go to Laura's medical costs. This service is very important in spreading the word on Laura's treatment and recovery so your donations are greatly appreciated but please know, again, that the donations do not go directly to Laura as they do here through Give Forward. If you want to donate directly to Laura please use this site to do so.*

UPDATE LAURA: She is moving ONWARD!!!! That is right folks, LAURA will be moving to CRAIG HOSPITAL on MONDAY. Craig Hospital has been providing rehabilitation for people with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) since 1956, making it one of the most experienced brain injury rehabilitation programs in the country. Fifty years of experience and acquired expertise has developed a comprehensive system of care, taking patients from the first weeks after injury to return to home and community. Upon admission to the Traumatic Brain Injury Program, each patient and family is assigned to an interdisciplinary team of experienced clinicians. Initial evaluations are conducted by each team member and the patient, family and clinicians begin to set rehabilitation goals. THIS IS THE ULTIMATE PLACE FOR LAURA TO BE. There is NO DOUBT in my mind that LAURA is going to walk out of Craig Hospital and begin her mission to share her testimony!!! Most patients follow through eight weeks of extensive rehabilitation prior to becoming an out patient. We shall see what LAURA does. WAY TO GO, LAURA, keep fighting.

Our champion is still weathering her recovery with such bravery! The doctors had hoped they could stop her siezure medication, but found out yesterday, at this time, it is not possible. We all need to continue in prayer for Laura, as she goes through the necessary changes and the hard course of her rehab therapy. There will be ups and downs, such as the fever she had this week an...d the siezure she suffered as a result of not having the medications. As with every step so far, she will prevail through the storm. Pray and keep praying! On another note, I know all of you are anxiously waiting for the news segment filmed earlier this month. TRUST ME, THIS ONE IS GOING TO BE VERY POWERFUL, which is the reason for the time lapse from the filming to the broadcast. I communicated with the news anchor again yesterday to express how we are all waiting to see this broadcast. I am confident that we will all be sitting in front of our TV's or computer screens in AWE. Hang in there a little longer. In the meantime, keep LAURA in all your prayers and keep lending her the SUPPORT she continues to need from us.

We still do not have word as to when the Sweeping News Story will air, but we will update as soon as we know! Today was another good day. Laura was eating more solid food and enjoying the pleasure of eating real food. The medical staff capped off the trach and she did very well. Next step, Trach comes out!!! Whoo hoo, we are moving on to bigger and better things. Speaking of which, are you planning to attend the Auction this weekend??? We look forward to meeting you. We will have several family members at the Auction along with Laura's biggest supporters!!! Even if you do not plan to buy an Auction item please do come to meet us. Don't forget the T-Shirts go on sale that day too! We will have various sizes. If your not able to attend you can place your order for a t-shirt online starting that day. Now that you have read all that please take a moment to say a prayer for Laura asking that she continue to improve each day, pray that she finds her direction in this MIRACLE IN THE MAKING, and pray for her family as many of us have so much more going on in our own daily lives. We need to be as strong as Laura and she is teaching us how strong she is every day!

Laura is now reading Facebook herself, so be careful what you say because this girl can kick butt! I encourage all of you to stay in touch with her and give her all the support you can give! She has got a lot to say and has a hell of a testimony to share. One day soon, you will hear her very own typed words! But, remember this is the very beginning of her rehab. She will need continued support throughout every stage of her recovery!!! Keep rocking her world with all the support you can give!

Laura stood up yesterday! They gaver her a smaller trach tube and she could swallow! She is also takling more and even picked out her own music to listen to! Praise God!!!

January 16th, 2012

Laura is responding very well to her new environment!! She is talking more and becoming more alert by day day! She is also making sure that she has her own music choice by selecting her own music from CD's. She is also talking more. On the flip side she does have another UTI and MRSA to deal with, but from the way she has overcomed all other obstacles we expect her to kick butt and fight against anymore infections. We feel confident that the meds they have her on now will help her kick butt. In the meantime, please continue to pray for Laura. We would like to see her continue to improve and soon be getting up more often. We will give you more updates again soon. Thank you for your continued support!!!

January 15th, 2012

Laura is now settled in her new environment. Please remain prayerful as we all adjust to the new settings, new medical staff and more changes for Laura. Laura begins her journey into REHAB with a thumbs up!! A good start indeed. We ask that you keep sending her the cards of encouragement, as she has enjoyed every single one of them. Keep her in your prayers, she will need them so much more now as she begins to move out of the bed more often. Again, we thank each of you for your continued support, for your prayers, your acts of kindness and for remembering our Laura for who she is and for what she stands for. We could not have made it this far without it. Without all the support Laura may not have known how many lives she truly touched, nor would we have had opportunity to hear your stories about your friend Laura!!! This has given her the reason to fight harder.

January 12th, 2012

Although Laura is a bit sleepy at times, when she is awake she becomes alert. The goal now is to keep her active. The trach remains but it is time for REHAB. Therefore, it has been medically decided that Laura will be transported via ambulance to her first rehab facility TONIGHT. Let us all PRAY for Laura to be safely transported. We must also PRAY that she will respond well to her new change of surroundings and that she does well as she begins the hardest part of her journey. Thank you for your continued support for LAURA and for all of us!!! We could not have made it this far without your encouragements and gifts of kindness for Laura!!! START THOSE PRAYER CHAINS TONIGHT.

Laura's neurosurgeon says she is ready for rehab! We are waiting for all the other doctors to concur. Laura was more alert today and with the trach speaker spoke a few words today. She was communicating with the THUMBS UP's. She still has her trach in place. Removing the trach would be the next major move prior to decisions being made to transport her into the first stage of he...r rehab. We are eager to see more progress and remain prayerful that Laura will be able to obtian the best rehabilitation possible. Thanks goes to many of you for continuing to donate to her cause, thus giving her great hope for the future!!! We all appreciate your kindness. May GOD bless you all, just as he has blessed Laura and all of her immediate family and friends.

Be sure to keep praying for Laura, she has a long journey ahead of her.
Out of Surgery!! Friday December 30th, 2011
December 30th, 2011

Laura is finally out of surgery now!!! She did very well and all the procedures went well too. She did need blood, but she has her brain fully secured now and has proper drainage. Although we do not know the donor who gave the blood...we are extremely grateful that another giving person is a part of Laura's recovery. Thank you all for calling up GOD and asking for him to care for Laura today!!! We are so blessed to have her and all of you!! We will keep you updated with her surgical recovery. We do know that they will slowly ween her out of the sedation they induced and this may take a few days to accomplish. Keep her in your prayers!!!!

Laura is having a great time visiting with her older sister!!!! When she walked into the room Laura gave her a big wave hello. She listened intently to every comment read to her to from those who posted comments yesterday! Laura's response...SHE WINKED and moved her head as if to say YES to each comment. GOD IS HOLDING LAURA IN HIS HANDS, PROTECTING HER UNTIL IT IS TIME FOR HER ...TO CONTINUE HER FIGHT AGAIN. And, as God's will DOES prevail a new chapter of her life will begin tomorrow!!! Laura's much needed surgery has been pushed up and will be performed tomorrow morning...with that news, we need PRAYER CHAINS again!!!! Thank you LAURA for giving us the WINKS and for giving us your love!!! KEEP FIGHTING cuz girl you gotta lotta living to do!!!! We love you!!!

Not much change yesterday but they did re-insert a catheter that will allow excess fluid to drain from her brain. That should eventually help Laura become more responsive (the last week responsiveness has been weak), and we will get further evaluation on the issues that transpired late last week. She needs continued prayer for healing of brain tissue, rewiring of her brain connections, moving arms and legs and regaining ability to write and speak (both had been present prior to this latest challenge), and for no new setbacks to her continued recovery.
Tuesday December 27th 2011
December 27th, 2011
Laura was not very responsive on Christmas day. When the doctor's had her prepared for surgery earlier this week they removed the ventric drains as part of her preparations. They were not put back in when the snow storm canceled the surgery. They need to be replaced so fluid can drain. When fluid builds up it causes Laura not to be as responsive as we love her to be. When the cerebral fluid has an outlet at all times, we will have our Laura with us smiling and communicating all the time. She has proved this to us. The much needed surgery for her brain flap replacement and insertion of shunts will without doubt allow Laura to live and love life as she does. There are some breathing issues, which we do feel will clear with God's healing hands. Please pray that the surgery will be rescheduled and that the holidays to come will not stall the surgery any longer!! Pray for her strength during this waiting period. Pray for good weather!!!!!!!
Change of plans. Thursday December 22nd 2011
December 22nd, 2011
Well as we have all heard before...timing is everything!!! God has his plans for Laura and in due time, THE RIGHT TIME, she will have her surgery. Unfortunately one of her surgeons was unable to get out of his home to make it to the hospital to perform the surgery. He is the lead doctor with 20 inches of snow! While we were hopeful that the surgery would be completed today, we know and trust that God's timing is perfect. We'll update you as we find out when the surgery will be rescheduled. Thank you all again for your continued support and for all the prayers. We must now pray for the PERFECT TIME for Laura's surgery. In the meantime, let's continue to ROCK Laura's world!!!

Laura's surgery started at 7:30AM and will go all-day today. Doctors are Winston and Waller. Praying against any infection or complications. We believe God is already healing her as we speak, and will continue as soon as surgery is over.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11
Laura is progressing well towards possible surgery next week to replace her skull. More alert some days and less so others. Please pray that bladder infection is solved, and for continued success in preparations!
Friday, December 16th, 2011
December 16th, 2011

As most of you know Laura was due to have her skull flaps replaced last Monday, but as a result of high fevers the surgeons could not put the flaps back in. If Laura were to have the skull flaps replaced this would allow for leaps and bounds in her recovery. Today tests were done to see how her body would react, which is an important process in the decision making for skull surgery. Please PRAY that these test will provide the medical team with the information they need to see so she can have successful surgery and begin to dance again!!! Thank you again for all your support, encouragement and for the various activities you involve yourself to help with supporting her recovery and especially for all the wonderful comments you have shared for us and for the world to see!!!

Step by Step
Glory to God in the highest -- Luke 2:14
As of yesterday, Laura is now out of ICU. Her fever is GONE, which is a huge answer to prayer. Laura is alternating between periods of alertness and needing rest for 3-4 hours or more.
When Laura is alert, the doctors are working with her on her speaking. She is making good progress today, mostly hand signs, and she tried to write yesterday. God's hand is most certainly upon her.
Please pray that God would continue to strengthen Laura's body and allow her to move forward in her recovery. Also, if you could please pray, my Dad, Paul Triem, goes into surgery tomorrow for removal of cancer and bladder. Our prayer request is that they find the cancer is contained, that his colon is fine, and that his 6-hour surgery goes smoothly.
Thank you again for your prayers --there is no other explanation than to give Him all of the credit and glory.

Laura is now speaking with her trach speaker. More meaningful words...her name and saying "Mom." The therapists indicate it is not easy but with the the will to fight that she has, she ought to be speaking more in about 4 days. She is getting to know everyone well, especially the cute doctors...keeping her sense of humor and smiling often. Keep the PRAYERS coming. Without such faith and working miracles we would not be here today sharing all the wonderful news. As we said before Laura has one heck of a testimony to share. THANK YOU all for your loving support and uplifting encouragement.

As Promised! Yes, Laura is now out of ICU, but remains in the Critical Care Unit. Leaps and Bounds from our FIGHTER!!! Fever still gone. Some tubes removed, but she still has the ventric line, a much better one now which will continue to remove fluid as it builds up. She SPOKE her first words "ah" and "yes". Her humor still remains...she knows how to "flip the bird" and she did. She is reco...gnizing more family members. The feeding tube remains. Her therapy continues and she still gets real pooped. We know as the days pass she will continue to give us more of herself. SHE IS SUCH AN AMAZING GIRL, who REFUSES TO GIVE UP!!!
WE LOVE YOU LAURA...THANKS FOR NOT GIVING UP AND FOR SHARING YOUR LOVE WITH US.
We PRAY that none of you give up and continue to GIVE FORWARD. Laura will give her own words one day but before that day she will need so much more medical care and therapy. We Thank each one of you for caring, sharing and giving from your HEARTS.

Laura is back in ICU due to problems with breathing. The doctors are working on solutions, and we hope they will be able to provide some answers.
Please pray that God would give the doctors wisdom and insight to determine why Laura is having difficulty breathing and what to do to to alleviate them.

We definitely know we have our Laura with us! Although she is running high fevers and the cause of infection can not be found she is still putting up the fight. Each day she gives us new reasons to believe she is more then alright. Her humor remains a part of her!!! Her Dad does not quite understand the weather changes in Denver...he is use to the hot weather from Phoenix and as a result had Laura rolling her eyes at him when he showed up to visit her in shorts in the middle of a Denver winter storm. If she were able, we would have heard her infectious laugh at that moment and her joking remarks, but we are forever greatful to get the eye rolling and the half smirking smile. She wants to talk but is still unable...soon she will have lots to say. In the meantime we PRAY and remain her support system keeping our faith for each day to bring more progress. Her therapy continues and we see improvements day after day. She is sedated for proper rest each night allowing her to be strong for her new sunrise. We ask that you continue your support for her with your many prayers. We THANK YOU for all those who made donations. With your help Laura will overcome her daily challenges and one day share her personal story with you.

"Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD" -- Psalm 27:14
Laura is somewhat alert and there is improvement. Her seizures and brain swelling are under control with medication that the doctors are giving her.
Our biggest prayer request right now is a mystery infection that has returned. The doctors are attacking the infection and trying to determine how to get rid of it.
Thanks to all of you for your continued prayer and support for Laura!

Update on Laura:
She began physical therapy. The therapy is hard work for her and poops her out. When she is pooped we cannot get much of her attention, which is best for her healing. THANKSGIVING DAY was not our usual family gathering, but we talked to Laura about what day it was. We were told to begin to ask her questions and tell her stories about her life. We were told to tell her about the accident, she appears to understand. The day after Thanksgiving we encountered a catch 22. Laura had two seizures in the morning. This prompted immediate reactions from nursing staff and the surgeon. Some blood was found on her brain…"the culprit." The blood was successful drained shortly thereafter. We are learning that although this was alarming it is normal progression with the type of injury Laura sustained. We have witnessed a few steps back, but continue to be VERY THANKFUL for the progress Laura is making. She amazes us each day despite the few little setbacks. Let me share one cool moment in time. We took her hand and put some lotion on it and waited for her response…shortly after, she started to rub the lotion into her other hand!!!! No doubt she is a FIGHTER!!!

Don't Grow Weary in Praying for Laura
[We] always ought to pray and not lose heart --- Luke 18:8
It has been a rough couple of days, with fluid that had to be removed from Laura's brain and two seizures today. However, we recognize that God is still in control and we remain optimistic that He will heal Laura. We are grateful for your continued prayers!

Thanksgiving Blessing
Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. Psalm 106:1
We hope and pray that you are enjoying this Thanksgiving day with loved ones.
Doctor's are pleased with Laura's progress. They are having her get quite a bit of rest, and also have her doing some mild physical therapy. We ask that you would check in with the family before coming to visit, as its important to respect the doctor's orders to get rest and quiet.
Blessings to all of you and thanks for your prayer - we'll continue to keep you updated!

Out of ICU
We are happy to announce that Laura is out of ICU, and showing good signs of recovery. There were a few very precarious days, followed by what can only be called a miraculous improvement. At this time, Laura is more alert and recognizing family.
Please continue praying that Laura's body fights off the pneumonia and infection as she recovers, and that her brain tissue heals from the trauma of the accident.
We know that there is a long road ahead of us, and all the more, we celebrate these victories as a reminder that God is continually faithful!

After a rough couple of days, Laura is showing improvement today. While we know there is a long road ahead of us, we are encouraged by today's progress. We know that God intricately knows the details of Laura's condition, and He is guiding us every step of the way.
Please continue in prayer that Laura's body will continue to heal as she is dealing with infection and pneumonia. Continue as well to pray for the healing of the brain tissue.
We appreciate the many ways you have poured out your love on Laura and our family -- even if you might not hear our gratitude, know that it doesn't go unnoticed! Thanks to all of you again for your continued prayer and love.

The doctor's indicated that Laura held steady today. She has a slight case of pneumonia, which is common for someone in her situation. Please pray with us that the pneumonia, as well as her fever, will diminish soon. We would ask for continued prayer in the healing of her brain tissue as well. Thank you!

Friends and family,
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement in the midst of this very difficult time. To give you an update, the doctors consider yesterday's surgery successful. Today is more of a rest day for Laura, to give her body a chance to heal and recover.
Please pray specifically with us that the tissue in Laura's brain would heal. She also has a slight infection, and we're praying that the infection would diminish quickly and completely.
Many thanks, and we'll keep the updates coming as we are able.

"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" - Philippians 4:19 written by The Triem Family
It's been almost one week since Laura's accident , and we are so thankful for all of you who have taken the time to stop by to see how Laura is doing. Many of you have called, texted, emailed and sent notes of encouragement - and while we haven't been able to respond to all of them, please know that we are grateful to all of you who have taken time out of your lives to support Laura and her family.
Laura continues to hold steady for the most part, in critical but stable condition. We are pleased with her progress, and appreciate the doctors and nurses who are taking such good care of her.
There is no doubt in our minds that Laura is recovering because of God's faithfulness and your prayers. Please continue to pray with us that there will be no setbacks in Laura's progress, and that she will continue to have a steady recovery.
We are asking that all visits to see Laura are set up with a family member in advance. Many thanks again for all of your love and support.
