Simon's mommy is raising money to help pay for surgery to help give him many more happy, healthy years to share. Please show your support!

We need your help desperately.....

My 9 year old Maltese, Simon has been a source of so much joy & love in his lifetime. There are many days where he is my only companion and confidant. Through some darker, trying times in life, he gave me a reason to get up and keep going. He has given so much, and asked only for love in return.

Simon has a bladder stone that has become lodged in his urethra. It cannot be dissolved, and must be surgically removed. I have been given an early estimate $2000 for surgery, not including any follow-up care. Without this surgery, he will eventually lose his ability to urinate and empty his bladder, which will cause it to rupture. This is a life-threatening ailment that must be treated as soon as possible.

To the outside world, or to anyone that does understand what it means to love and be loved by a dog, Simon may be just another dog. But to me....he is a reason to find joy in even the worst of days. Comfort when I am sad, "kisses" when I am mad. After a long day of work, he is waiting with his tail wagging, ready to play fetch with his worn out tennis ball.

Just getting to this diagnosis has been terribly expensive. I am simply streched beyond what I can do financially for him. I have already had to let some monthly bills go unpaid. Simon and I need your help so that he can have this surgery and enjoy many many more games of fetch and share kisses with his mommy.

I applied for creditcare to help alleviate some of these costs, but we have maxed it out just to get to this diagnosis.

SIMON MUST HAVE THIS SURGERY BEFORE HIS URETHRA BECOMES TOTALLY BLOCKED, BECAUSE HE WOULD THEN NEED IMMEDIATE EMERGENCY SURGERY!!! I HAVE BEEN TOLD ONCE IT IS TOTALLY BLOCKED, HE MUST HAVE THE SURGERY RIGHT AWAY OR HE WILL NOT SURVIVE VERY LONG AT ALL. If I cannot raise the money before then, I will not be able to pay for an emergency surgery. I could not bear my Simon passing on, knowing I could have helped him if only I'd been able to pay for surgery!

NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL! PLEASE HELP US IF YOU CAN!! PLEASE SHARE SIMON'S STORY WITH YOUR FAMILY & FRIENDS!

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have
In this selfish world, The one that never deserts him,
The one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog…He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer…
When all other friends desert, he remains."
George G. Vest: Speech U.S. Senate, 1884

WE HAVE SCHEDULED SURGERY!!! THANKS TO EVERYONE!!

April 6th, 2011

I can't thank everyone enough for all of their help!!!  Simon and I won the "March Madness" contest, and had the $250 prize added to our funds!  I will be changing the end date on this fund raiser to tomorrow, April 7, because it does take ten days to two weeks to receive the check from giveforward.com.  We are scheduled for surgery on April 21.  As I said in my earlier update, I will not be taking Simon to the specialist, but to a new vet that came highly recommended to me by a lady that owns an animal rescue.  Simon will be taken care of by Dr. Wright at Lithonia Animal Hospital in Lithonia, GA.  This is a 91+ mile drive for us, but after talking with Dr. Wright, I have such a good feeling about him and his staff, I know it will be worth the trip.  Every other "regular/non-specialist vet" I have spoken with has said they are not comfortable operating in the urethra.  When I asked Dr. Wright if he was comfortable with this type of surgery, he assured me that in his 40 years of practice, he has done this type of surgery many, many times, and Simon will be in good hands.

Simon and I could not have gotten this far without everyone's help.  Family, friends, and even complete strangers came forward to help me save my Simon.  Members of the local Humane Shelter took time out of their own fund raising to offer their support to us.  When I first started collecting funds for Simon, I felt very alone and overwhelmed.  I never imagined that in just three weeks, we would've raised as much as we have.  I truly appreciate each and every dollar we have received.  Whether you gave $5 or $200, it all added up to get us where we are now.  Giveforward.com does charge a fee of 7%, mostly for credit card processing and other fees, but between the amount will we receive from this site and checks/cash I've been given, funds from yardsales and other events, Simon and I should have around $1900 to go towards all of his expenses from the surgery and follow-up care.  His fund raiser will still be open throughout today for donations, and I will be updating everyone that made their contact information available once the surgery is completed.  And my Facebook friends can expect to see lots & lots of pictures/info/updates there as well.  I truly appreciate everything everyone has done for us.  I hope to be able to repay everyone's kindness someday!!

I would like to pay forward all of the love and support that has been shown to Simon.  I have joined in the thousands that have signed a petition for a red pit bull puppy named Patrick.  He was severely abused and neglected and thrown out like trash to die.  Patrick's abuser deserves to be punished to the maximum extent of the law.  Please join me in lending your voice to another doggie in need.  Read Patrick's story and sign the petition here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/10/maximum-sentence-for-patricks-abuser/

Update 4/2/11

April 2nd, 2011

I held a yard sale today to help raise more money to go towards Simon's surgery.  Thanks to some great items donated, I was able to make $100 to add to our funds.  I would like to have another one, and may try again tomorrow if I feel up to it.  We shall see.  Simon has started to groan we he goes potty.  He doesn't do it every time, but I know that the stone makes things uncomfortable (and possibly painful) for him.

I have been in contact with another vet.  He has been in practice for about 40 years, and has done many surgeries like the one Simon needs.  He is incredibly nice, and I have a great feeling about him.  His early estimate for surgery are slightly lower than the ones I received from the specialist, but I still need to try to raise the $2000 I am trying to raise to cover surgery, follow-up, meds, etc.

He stressed to me the importance of Simon having this surgery before his urethra becomes totally blocked.  He said if that were to happen, Simon would have a MAXIMUM of 48 hours to live.  PLEASE HELP ME AND SIMON RAISE THIS MONEY!!

We are in the championship round of giveforward.com's "March Madness."  If we raise the most money through Monday at 11:59 P.M. we get $250 added to our funds!!!  We need this!  PLEASE HELP ME SAVE SIMON!
