S_O_S - Our Heart



We are sending out an S_O_S, a signal of distress to save our ship. Our ship is our mother, the vessel by which we have come into this world. She has brought us through numerous turbulent storms throughout our lives. And now it’s time for my siblings and me to bring her through this storm and back into port, thus saving her. My mother’s name is Wilma Bonner and she lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am my mother’s middle child and I have two children of my own. I want my children to have the chance to experience her wisdom, support, and unwavering love that she has given to me.



My mother is in need of a heart transplant. Our primary goal is to provide post-transplant care that is currently lacking in the medical insurance plan she has. Each day as her heart weakens, her faith grows stronger. She has been consumed with concern over the astronomical cost of the procedure. The cost rises to a level in excess of $750,000 of which a greater percentage is covered by private insurance. In addition to the cost of the surgery, heart transplant patients typically have a lifetime of follow-up care and require daily medications that are essential to their survival. This ongoing monthly cost is estimated to be greater than $2700.



My mother is being cared for through Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Institute /Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. Her transplant medical team has stated her financial obligation will be no less $150,000. These funds will be allocated for surgical cost and ongoing post-surgical care expenses. Although our goal is a daunting one, we stand convicted in faith and the belief that we call those things that be not, as though they are. With this faith, we know the challenge will be accomplished. We will sponsor numerous fundraising events to support our primary goal of achieving our financial obligations.



The future of affordable healthcare dominates our news today. It is a Christian obligation to provide affordable healthcare to every American citizen that is in need of coverage.
