This past fall, Richie contracted a rare disorder called Transverse Myelitis as a result of vaccinations he received. This condition left Rich with damage to his spinal cord, and the inability to walk. Before this event, Rich was an active healthy person who loved riding his bike, enjoying the outdoors with family and friends, and working at his job. Rich has been lucky and restored most of his feeling above his mid section, but this cruel illness has left damage to his spine.

There is hope for healing spinal cord injury with the use of restorative therapy. With the help of a movement therapy bike Rich's body can hopefully reeducate the spinal cord to function as it once did. The added benefits to this type of therapy are immeasurable, not only will it exercise Rich's legs and arms, it will improve his circulation, and cut down on risks of common complications that accompany paralysis. Rich has used this machine in rehab and the benefits of its use are important to him and to his healing process.
