Proposition 8: The Heart of the Matter is a feature length documentary that will attempt to understand HOW and WHY Proposition 8 passed in California, which eliminated the right of same-sex couples to marry in the November election. We will explore these questions by tapping into the hearts and minds of top campaign officials, legal experts, renowned civil rights advocates, politicians and religious leaders from both sides of the argument. The focus of the documentary, however, will be on the people whose lives have been severely affected by Prop 8 including gay and lesbian families and their children, devoutly religious families, those that have been harassed and morally outcast because of their opinions on Prop 8, and those who are resting comfortably on the laurels of the Prop 8 victory. The beginning portion of the film will parallel that of the legal case in the California Supreme Court as the Court discusses, reviews and and ultimately rules on the validity of Proposition 8, as well as the fate of 18,000 same-sex couples. The film will feature dynamic footage and visual effects to reflect the palpable energy and passion this movement evokes within every individual it touches.

 

Our mission is to create an entertaining, compelling story while providing a platform where all sides of the story are presented so a wide array of individuals are motivated to achieve a deeper understanding of the issues and engage each other in a well-informed discussion.

 

This issue is the civil rights fight of our generation. This moment is a decisive moment in this story and in this history of our nation. It is a story that must be documented and told.
