Cheyenne and Ryan, owners of a young, liver problematic cat are reaching out to everyone. All donations go toward Oci’s veterinary expenses.

Our small bodied, full of young life and ripened with love Oci has recently become stricken with severe liver problems. It is turning both his life and ours upside down. He is only about 3 years old which is uncommonly young to have problems with the liver. It was sudden, and of course devastating, and we are trying to cope emotionally and sensibly while being financially challenged. It is curable however too much for us to cover alone.

My fiancé and I have owned animals all of our life but none have leeched onto our hearts quite like our little striped and swirled pattern tabby; Oci. About three years ago he was found outside of a friend’s home and taken back to our house where he would find new friendship in my cat, Ray, and best friendship in my fiancé, Ryan. Ryan was unemployed at the time and to conserve money we would hardly go out, so the relationship between him and my fiancé rapidly strengthened. My older cat, Ray, is not the playful spirit like he once was so Oci could only find playtime with Ryan, and he never passes up a playful kitten! He even got to go outside on a harness and leash. Essentially, they spent every hour of their days together.

It wasn’t until my fiancé left for a month long job that Oci began showing charm and affection to me. It was the first morning when I woke up to that “feeling” of something staring straight through me. I opened my eyes and to my disbelief, and confusion, Oci was staring at me about 10 inches from my face. He reached out a furry white-toed paw and patted my nose. It was as if he was thinking “what’s going on here?” and he proceeded to do so every day for a week or so. This is where our friendship finally bloomed and has kept blossoming for another 2 ½ years.

My fiancé, a Star Wars fan, began calling him Oci Wan Kenoci, which has really stuck as his nickname and a title that would be too short lived if he doesn’t get the help he needs; this is where I conceived the fundraising title ‘Oci’s Only Hope’ for our young feline, because this really is his only hope! I have looked for other means of financial support and this is the only place we have to ask for all the help we can get.

My fiancé has a credit card and a Care Credit card, both that are nearly maxed out due to the vet bills for our cherished Oci. My fiancé is 25, I am 24, and we’re trying to get into college as well. His family has helped as much as they can, but they can’t help anymore. My side does not have the finances to help at all.

Thank you for any help you can give; it is immensely and genuinely appreciated!

If you would prefer to send a check by mail you may do so by reaching Cheyenne Youngblood, the representative for Oci at the mailing address 400 ½ 2nd Apt 2-A Ave Gallipolis, OH 45631.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to the representative you may reach her at 740-645-8313.

If you would like to speak to Oci's veterinarian for a confirmation of this fundraiser and his illness you may reach Dr. Kirkpatrick at (304) 675-1270, his current vet, and Dr. Cruden at (304) 525-8387, which is his previous vet that also handled Oci in the beginning of his illness.

Thank you again!

Diagnosis

April 6th, 2011

Feline Hepatic Lididosis (aka Fatty Liver Disease) is Oci's diagnosis. Dr. Kirckpatrick, Oci's vet, let us know he strongly believes Oci will make a good recovery! He'll need to stay on his feeding tube for another month and still be fed liquefied food and water through it, plus IV fluids every other day (up from every day). He may have to stay on medication for 6 months to a year depending on what he decides tomorrow at the vet office. This is because Oci may have kidney damage now.

Thank you all for your ongoing support!! We appreciate everything that's been donated, shared, and kind words that have been expressed!

Deepest thanks,
Cheyenne, Ryan, and Oci Wan Kenoci

3/31/2011 Vet check-up; blood work & liver biopsy.

March 31st, 2011

Today started off phenomenal. I log onto my Facebook this morning at work and I wanted to cry and jump around ecstatically. All over Facebook I see Oci's fundraiser being shared by strangers and friends to the extent I never imagined. Then I log into my GiveForward account and on just the second day there is $180 donated! I call Ryan to give him the good news when he actually gave me even better news--at 11:00am we reached $190! By 2:30pm we reached $249! The support we can feel is helping us carry our spirits at a higher level and relieving financial burdens by an enormous amount. We are so happy to have people help us get Oci back to his deserving, youthful self.

Last night when I laid down with Oci he came to my side, laid half of his body on my stomach and curled his toes into my belly. Since he has been sick he hasn't kneaded on our stomachs like he used to every night. Today, when I called Ryan to tell him the good news he goes "Can you hear him?" and I tell him no, and I ask him what am I suppose to be hearing. Oci was meowing and apparently rubbing against the door frames, like he used to!

Later when I got home I crouched on the ground and put my face in front of Oci, like we always do to exchange "head rubs", and he pushed his forehead into me just like he would have two weeks ago. He was acting like he felt incredible.

Now it's time to go to the vet to get Oci's blood taken for a check up. We explain all the good signs we've had and gushed about all of the amazing help we've been receiving.

I think all of the support has lifted our spirits so much, and Oci acting so well today, made the blood work results a hard smack in the face. Every number to do with his liver is high. I have the paper work that I'm going to post so people can see if they are familiar with blood work numbers. His white and red blood cell results are good, he's staying very hydrated, but everything else that's crucial to his health didn't improve. So he was taken in the back to be put under anesthesia to have the liver biopsy performed. The vet informed us that his liver is not doing so good--when they went to slice a piece off, it basically fell off itself. We asked the vet why Oci is acting so well today then, if his numbers are so poor and his liver is like this. He said it's likely that the steroids that he has been on for 48 hours now are really taking affect.

The end result for today: the vet can't give us any opinions on where it looks like he's going until the biopsy comes back, which is hopefully Tuesday. They put a feeding tube in his neck so that it's easier to administer his food and all medication remains the same. He's a very sick kitty... our vet can't understand how a cat so young is having liver problems but is hopeful that being so young he can fight through it.

Thank you so much for everyone's support and continuing support! Because of this, Ryan, who normally can't talk to the veterinarian about all of this without getting emotional, was able to ask all of the questions. He expressed in the vehicle how much stronger and hopeful he feels having all of this financial and emotional support from everyone.
