The family of Margie Bersterman are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against lung cancer. Please Help Margie...
Mom has been recently diagnosed with stage III-b lung cancer. At the age of only 39 years old, she lost her husband of 23 years to the same disease. Now, at the young, vibrant age of only 69, she has raised 6 children all on her own, not having remarried. She is now the proud mother and grandmother of 6 kids, 16 grandkids and 9 great-grandbabies, with one on the way. Despite all the challenges she faced day in and day out, she did it - all on her own and we want to celebrate having her as our mom.
Although she's covered by Medicare, there's 20% that they don't pay whichi is going to get very expensive and we need all the help we can get to keep our mom with us for many years to come. So far, we know she is going to need 30 chemo treatments at a minimum and that does not include injections and other medications not covered by Medicare. No donation is too small, so please, if you can, help us help our Mommy.
With all the love she's surrounded by, we're keeping the faith that she will make a full recovery - with your help.

So, mom took a break from chemo this week, but that didn't keep her out of the oncologist's office. Day in and day out of getting hours and hours of Iron dosages. Not sure if the overload of iron is giving her severe heartburn or the chemo attacking the mass in her lung, but she's no happy camper right now. If it wasn't working, she wouldn't feel anything, right?
This weekend, she will be surrounded by all of her kids and many grandkids. Grandma loves Easter and it's no better time to gather around her and celebrate. We're going to have her out there hunting eggs with the kids....pictures will be posted of our Easter Mommy!!
Week 2
April 10th, 2011
Mom had her second treatment on Friday - but she's got a low blood count. We'll see how she's doing tomorrow and keep our fingers crossed she won't need a blood transfusion....
Lots of protien, Mom!! A delivery of red meat is over due!!

Findings: Negative.

She did amazing after her first treatment!! We had a nice gathering for her by the pool with lots of food - which she was able to tolerate well. I think she gained like 5 pounds just on Saturday alone!!

Ok, friends - Today, 04/01/2011, she had her first chemo treatment. She's in such good spirits knowing that we have put this together for her and she can finally relax some and just get better rather than worrying all the time about how everything is going to get paid for. Thanks to everyone who is helping make this a little tolerable. We are so grateful!
