Please help support Kay Landau while she recovers from her stem cell transplant!
My mom, Kay Landau, was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on February 15, 2011.
Her initial treatment lasted several weeks and she was eventually released from the hospital, having gone into remission. However, the possibility for infection is high for leukemia, and she underwent continual chemotherapy and radiation cycles from her original diagnosis in February until December of 2011.
On December 10, 2011, my mom had a stem cell transplant in an attempt to keep her body disease free. The stem cells of a very generous 20-year-old male were infused into her body. Eventually, her stem cells (immune system) will be completely replaced by those of the donor.
After undergoing this procedure, one's immune system is incredibly weak and prone to infection. It is not recommended that one have any exposure to those who could potentially have common illnesses such as the common cold or flu.
My mom has worked as a Starbucks barista for the past 7 years, but due to her health, has only been able to work sporadically over the past year. Having undergone this stem cell transplant, my mom has been unable to work for the past few months and will not be able to work for the foreseeable future due to the high risk of infection. She would like to return to work by the end of the year, but at this point we cannot be certain that this will be possible.
My mom has exhausted her savings and has been dependent upon the generosity of family and friends to pay her rent and daily expenses. Her only income is $847.00 per month for disability.
Any contributions that you can make would greatly assist my mom in meeting her day-to-day needs. Needless to say, our family would be endlessly thankful for any donations, no matter how small.
