The Israel Sports Center for the Disabled specializes in the physical and psychological rehabilitation of Israeli children and youth. Over 2,500 of these disabled youngsters, without discrimination of religion, race or sex, participate.
The Center’s rehabilitative work has been recognized both domestically and internationally, and serves ever-increasing numbers of disabled children, including victims of terrorist attacks. Due to ongoing developments in medicine and technology, many more children now survive birth accidents thus resulting in a higher number of disabled with very severe handicaps and highly complicated needs. In 2008 alone, 200 additional children joined the Center. The Center is one of the largest in the world and is a world pioneer in the field of sports for the disabled. The spirit and motivation of sport is used as a means to help guide the disabled from a state of helplessness to productive, fulfilling lives. It has been proven that sports activities contribute more to the confidence, morale, and self-image of the disabled than any other form of rehabilitation and significantly prolong the life expectancy of the seriously disabled
