We have extended the fundraiser once again! We never thought this would take so long but patience and focusing on the positive has helped. Keeping the site active ensures that people can continue to give support. Thank you for keeping Hannah in your thoughts and prayers.
Hannah continues to inspire. Her happiness, strength and positive attitude melts our hearts. God has truly blessed us...
Love,
Darryl, Young-Mi, Dana and Hannah
Hannah Genevieve Warren was born on August 22nd 2010. She was born with an extremely rare congenial abnormality known as tracheal agenesis (her trachea failed to develop). Because of the lack of a normal continuous airway, affected newborns survive only if an alternate pathway for ventilation (eg. a patent bronchoesophageal fistula) exists. Hannah developed this fistula which enabled doctors to revive her after birth. It was an absolute miracle. The fistula allows for air to be safely ventilated into her lungs via an incubated tube inserted directly into her mouth and esophagus. After the doctors revived and stabilized her, she was immediately transferred to Seoul National Hospital and she has been in the Neonatal ICU ever since.
Hannah needs a trachea or she will die. She has been fighting bravely and waiting over 20 months for this amazing opportunity. Italian surgeon, Dr. Paolo Macchiarini will will give Hannah the trachea she so desperately needs. The bioengineered synthetic scaffold will be grown using absorbable fibers and stem cells from Hannah’s bone marrow will be seeded onto the scaffold. This will minimize the chance of her immune system rejecting the transplant because the transplanted trachea will exactly match her DNA. This life-saving surgery will enable her to breathe normally and live a long and healthy life.
Hannah needs your support. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. All money raised will go towards Hannah’s costly medical bills, travel costs and living expenses while in the USA. The total cost of her medical bills will be dependent upon how well she responds to her transplant. The hospital recently estimated a cost of $300,000. Currently, the total amount raised is close to $100,000(including giveforward) which is wonderful, but we need to keep focused and raise much more. Also, I will be out of work for at least two months(perhaps longer). For 20 long, stressful and painful months Young-Mi and I(Hannah's parents) have dreamed about finally getting Hannah home and watching while our two little girls play happily together. It's these types of dreams that keep us focused and driven to give Hannah her transplant. Your generous donations will go a long way in making this happen. You will also help ease our financial burden enabling us to focus solely on getting our little girl well. Hannah is a very strong, brave and special little girl who deserves this opportunity so please open your hearts and contribute to HELP HANNAH BREATHE.
