I am currently in HAITI as of February 13th, 2010

Hi everyone,

        My name is Adam Mentkowski (“Chowski” to most). We've all heard of the horrible news coming from earthquake-stricken Haiti this past week. In an effort to respond to this tragedy in some helpful way I have been given the opportunity of a lifetime to go there for a few weeks to assist in the hospitals as a surgical technician on a surgical team. I hope this finds you all with an open mind and an open ear.

Allow me a moment to formally introduce myself. I have been involved in BMX for five years. BMX has taken me all over the country, provided me with a plethora of lifelong friends, and has even lined my pockets a little along the way, all with the support of my family and friends. I attend college fulltime and work a part time job in order to pay for bills at a house with my close friends, and ride any chance I get (usually at Ray’s MTB). I am attending college in pursuit of a Sugical Assistant career. Currently through school, I work as a student surgical technician at a local hospital. Prior to the earthquake, I had been planning next year on going to Haiti or the Dominican Republic to also help in the operating room. However, due to the circumstances of the recent tragedy, I had approached my program instructor about embarking on this trip as soon as possible. The issue at first was being excused from my clinicals (two days a week), however now I will be helping in the operating room seven days a week (basically seven days of clinicals in other words).

I would like to clarify that this is non-profit and solely for the benefit for those in need in Haiti and not for my own personal aspirations. It is my hope that I may raise $2300.00 prior to February 13th in order to help compensate for this opportunity of a lifetime. I will not be riding for a few weeks due to this experience. I am asking the BMX community in which I am solely a part of to help make this opportunity become a reality. I plan on documenting every day of this trip with an exceeding number of photos and videos to give everyone a similar life-altering experience. If 100 people each donate 25$, we can reach the modest goal I have set for $2500.
