This year through Fordham University's Global Outreach (GO!) program, nine women and myself traveled to Siuna which is the Northern autonomous region of Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in the Western hemisphere (right behind Haiti). It lies between Honduras & Costa Rica in South America.

GO! stands for Global Outreach which is a cultural immersion and service program where Fordham students learn about various issues of social, economic, political and environmental injustice, while living a simple lifestyle that fosters great communal and spiritual growth.

During the time in Siuna, Nicaragua, we worked with Bridges to Community. It is a non-profit organization development organization whose challenge is to create a world where basic needs are treated as human rights: shelter, nutrition, education, health care, and employment. We will live and work amongst the indigenous Miskitu people to see their homes, learn about their strong culture, religion, language, and current struggles and see how Bridges is making a difference by empowering the members of the community.

Our dedicated team of 10 strong women mets weekly for intense preparation in culture, community, language and most especially, service with and for our sisters and brothers around the world.

Our success as a team depends on YOU! We must raise the cost of our own expenses which include travel, housing, donating materials, food, etc. The total cost for the trip is $2200 and it costs $275 a day to sponsor my 8-day project. This price includes the $1295 stay at the Bridges to Community organization, insurance, an emergency fee, traveling expenses, and round trip plane tickets.

If I were to raise over my individual fundraising goal, those funds will go directly to be splitting up among the other members of my team. inclusive week long stay at the Bridges to Community organization, insurance, an emergency fee, and round trip plane tickets.
