Cabrini Connections allows the Cabrini Green youth to have a safe place for learning, education, and real-life role models.

The economic downturn has hit hard, so we are raising funds to continue making a positive difference in the community.

Cabrini Madness: "Give Hope"

The primary role of the program is to provide the youth with real-life mentor and role-models.

A mentor at Cabrini Connections acts like a surrogate parent, aunt or uncle. The role is a motivator, a coach, a tutor, and an advocate.

Our purpose is not to shape a youth to our values, but to help them be everything they have the potential to be.

We care. We show up, we show interest in them, what they do in school, who they are, and what is important to them.

In my own words:

Ana (student): This program [Cabrini Connections] is good to us because our tutors don't talk down to us.  They try to help us find a better solution to our problems.  They care for us, and they aren't phoney.  They really help us a lot.

Arden (student): I think Cabrini connections is a good place because when you come here it is like you have a whole other world to come to get help on work, personal stuff, and you have tutors that help you through your ups and your downs in school or in life in general. Cabrini Connections to me is really important because I not only get help in areas I really need help in, but I also get friendship and advice and it’s just a really good place to be. I don’t know what I would do without my tutor sometimes.

Ayana (student):   We learn "funducational games" as in finding places on atlases which is really cool and fun.  There are fun clubs like Tech, art, writing, and computer, and we get to go on field trips.

Cassia (mentor):  My experience is that Cabrini connections provides the students with an oasis from home and school.  It is a third space where they can let their gaurd down a little, work on subjects that are challenging them, and gain insight on a world outside of home and school.
