To help cover a portion of the legal fees incurred by Frank J Haas as he defended equality in West Virginia Freemasonry.
This fundraiser is to help cover a portion the legal expenses of Frank J. Haas. Frank was the Grand Master of Freemasons in West Virginia from 2005-2006. At the end of his term he introduced a set of reforms that were aimed at bringing Freemasonry in West Virginia more in line with the global tenets of Freemasonry and with U.S. public policy on race, national origin and disability.
Shortly after these reforms were voted on and passed by a majority of Masons in West Virginia, they were declared illegal by the next grand master, and Frank Haas was expelled without Masonic Trial (West Virginia Masonry has no law supporting this action) after 20 years of service.
In December 2012, Frank sued the Grand Lodge of West Virginia for wrongful expulsion and defamation. While the Judge found that he was wrongly expelled without Masonic trial, the jury awarded no damages.
The fight for equality in West Virginia Masonry cost, in Haas's own words "Many times my annual income." The purpose of this fundraiser is to help alleviate the costs of this important battle for equality, and true Masonic principles.
We as Masons are obliged to help distressed worthy brothers - Frank J. Haas is one of them.

MWB Haas, thank you for your sacrifice! Freemasonry needs more good men like you to find the courage to stand up and reclaim the virtues that we teach in our ritual. And the other grand jurisdictions should have the courage to do the same by supporting you! The principles of the Masonic Crusade (like transparency in grand lodge government) are critical to the future of Freemasonry. As an Ohio mason,I am proud to count you as one of our own. Fraternally, Richard Graeter, Past Master and 33rd Degree, NMJ Caliburn Lodge, #785, F&AM Cincinnati, Ohio

Thank you for your stand, for doing what is right!!! You make me proud to be a member of the fraternity, and ashamed of some of my WV brethen.

Your ordeal, while seemingly only pertaining to masonry in WV, has brought to light injustice and intolerance in other jurisdictions, and caused many masons elsewhere to consider your situation and inspire them to do the right thing. And to me, that alone is worth the cost of donation.
Hugs for frankhaaslegalfees.
