Friends and family of Erica Abbott are uniting to raise money in her memory for a scholarship fund at Sarva Yoga Academy.
The Erica Abbott Sarva Yoga Academy Scholarship Fund:
On Tuesday, August 30th, we at Sarva Yoga Academy lost one of our dearest friends, Erica Abbott, in a cycling accident in our Brooklyn neighborhood. She was a profound dancer, a newly named Bodhisattva (think, Superhero), and our personal style icon.
In her memory, we join together to create a Scholarship Fund to enable future students to participate in Sarva Yoga Academy.
Our Aim: $4108 by Oct 17th. Rather than place it into the hands of one person, Erica's teachers' wish is to make the tuition cost less daunting so more people may immerse themselves into this unprecedented training. The scholarship also includes a Free Seven-Month Membership at Brooklyn's GO Yoga, where Erica practiced yoga daily.
Please help us meet and exceed this aim...

100% of donations will be collected by Erica's SYA Teacher, Michael Hewett, so that he and Co-Teacher Dushan Zaric can offer future students of Sarva Yoga Academy the opportunity for tuition or retreat scholarships in honor of Erica.
Many students are sincere practitioners of Yoga and Meditation, but they would not otherwise be able to afford the financial commitments to complete the rigorous training (including costs of tuition, retreat, and time away from employment obligations).
At Sarva Yoga Academy, we had been learning about the traditional teachings of death and after-life, and Erica's friend Haley remembers her saying… “but all that doesn’t matter, That’s why I’m going to reach Enlightenment in THIS lifetime.”
In reflection, Erica was always brave. When many of us were too proud to verbalize what we were feeling - when we were striving to keep face - Erica was raw, completely candid about her experience with these deep teachings. She questioned, disagreed, but surrendered wholly to the will of her teachers, and the teachers all around her.
In her passing, she has given us the clarity of our greatest lesson, the first step on the Path we studied hand in hand: Yes, this life is beautiful. There is so much to be enjoyed. We live in paradise, if only we see through what keeps us from it. Still, we never know which
breath will be the last. We must all take clear action to changing our world, Now.
At the end of our Yoga classes, we often practice a dedication, sending this Perfect Universe (our Mandala) out into the world as a great seed of Love falling into the still lake of our United Soul-Mind, and causing ripples, to become waves. In seeing the love that surrounds Erica… the thousands of people who she has shaped and
who in turn have shaped others, we are further resolved to bring ourselves to the Highest State of Being. In fact, we promise to. For her.
Erica, go. Realize your own Divinity. Enter fully- and come back to teach us again.
At the same time, we will offer your highest aspirations as inspirations to others. May the Erica Abbott Sarva Yoga Academy Scholarship also keep your spirit alive!

The Erica Abbott Scholarship is completed!
October 17th, 2011

Dear Friends,
Thanks to you, the Erica Abbott Sarva Yoga Academy Scholarship is complete (and then some)! Together we've stayed true to Erica's spirit by creating the causes for many more people to "Know Thyself" as Erica did in this lifetime.
Your generosity toward others is inspiring. Your messages of love have helped recall the beautiful qualities of Erica. Your kindness reminds us of a poem that Erica used to cite at the bottom of her letters, written by Buddhist teacher Geshe Michael Roach:
I step before
This strange mirror,
My life
The one that reflects
After months or years
How I have been to others;
And I thank the God
Of my goodness
For creating
All your faces
Thank you again for your kind actions, words, and thoughts in honor of Erica.

1/2 way there for Erica Abbott Scholarship Fund!
September 23rd, 2011

Thank you so much for your generosity! So far we've raised over $2400 for the Erica Abbott Scholarship to Sarva Yoga Academy!
Erica's SYA teachers, Michael Hewett and Dushan Zaric, have decided to distribute this scholarship fund between all of the SYA students this year to share the offering among everyone ("Sarva" means "whole," after all). Go Yoga, where Erica practiced for many years, has also added a 7-month Unlimited Yoga pass for a scholarship recipient.
Our goal is raise over $4000, and we would graciously appreciate your help to get the word out this week!

"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Sahara. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively outnumbers the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here." -Richard Dawkins, 'Unweaving The Rainbow'
