My husband, Dennis, was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in December. He has never before been ill or hospitalized. We have no insurance other than Medicare. His treatments cause him to miss work and his work, car sales, is very slow at this time.
As stated, my husband, Dennis has colorectal cancer. Dennis has never been ill or hospitalized and is, basically, in shock, over the medical bills. He had a very large tumor removed during a 7 hour surgery. Dennis is now undergoing rigorous therapies. He is now receiving chemotherapy and will then be receiving radiation (25 consecutive treatments to start). Following radiation, he will have more chemotherapy. We are very worried about how he will tolerate these treatments - both how he will feel and, of course, how much income he will be forced to miss. I am his wife and, currently, am on disability for a multitude of problems I have ranging from Rheumatoid Arthritis to 7 ruptured discs to severe migraine attacks, Neuropathy, and Diabetes, and that is just part of the list. When doctors urged me to try for disability they did not tell me that I would not be entitled to receive Medicare for two years. Yes, two years. I have greatly reduced my trips to the doctor, of course, and can not afford a great many of my medications as we are busy paying for Dennis' hospitalizations, treatments and medications. We have two sons, Dennis and Michael. Dennis is turning 16. He needs things daily - school, extra curricular activities, etc. He is also scheduled for surgery on April 1 - a Septoplasty. We are not sure what expenses that will leave us with. My oldest son is just starting out on his own and it breaks our heart that, although he does not ask, we can not assist him at this time. My mother is elderly, has many health issues and is no postition to assist us either. She is 76, and for insurance purposes only, she still works at our local Wal Mart. We can not ask her for help - we should be helping her. I have always been a hard worker. I do a great deal of volunteer work in my community. My family and I are also animal lovers and do a lot of volunteer work helping them. My husband misses the "dog transports" he used to be able to go on and hopes to get back to this very soon. The money from this fundraiser would, of course, be used for current and past due medical bills - we receive them daily and for medications not covered by Medicare or covered only partially. We also need help with our day to day expenses and so may even need this money to purchase simple things like groceries. It is hard for us to do this - to ask for money. We are usually the ones helping. But there are some things we want. We want Dennis to be himself again, of course. And we all want to get back to normalcy - attending our school meetings, our fundraisers. We want to be the family we were before cancer came into our lives. We know now what it must be like for so many others - far worse conditions are out there, we know. We wish all those suffering the best of everything and we thank anyone taking the time to assist us in any way. Thank you for helping me and my boys.

Hugs for Help My Boys.
