Chiditarod - a Chicago phenomenon that combines elements of the Alaskan Iditarod with Chicago's finest brand of debaucherous social activism
The *AWESOME* known as Chiditarod is now in its 6th year. On March 5th, 2011, Chicago's mushers, artists, pub-crawlers, enthusiastic leisurists, professional badasses, cartoon characters, activists, ninjas, saboteurs and of course, robots, will assemble yet again to perpetrate what is "nearly definitely the largest mobile food drive in the known world."
We've partnered with the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation to raise money to stamp out hunger.
UPDATE: ~~ Way to go in breaking our $6,000 goal to commemorate our VI-th year!! We will tally up results as of 5pm next Saturday, March 5th to determine our top fundraising winner, but we will also be recognizing every team that helped get us there! There's still time left to get your name in bright lights and rev your shopping-cart engines before race day! ~~
To achieve supreme-awesomeness, your team can start your own fundraising page to help raise money for the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation. Just click the orange "Join Group" button to the right to get started.
When creating your own fundraising page for your team, you can copy and paste the description below or feel free to create your own description:
Dear friends,
On March 5th, 2011, I will be participating in the 6th annual Chicago Chiditarod. If you have never heard of it, the Chiditarod is a mobile food drive that combines elements of Alaska's Iditarod with a costumed race and Chicago's own unique brand of social activism.
Basically, I will be donning a ridiculous costume while pushing a shopping cart filled with canned food down the streets of Chicago.
In short, this is a silly event with a very serious cause. We are trying to raise money for the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation and we are asking for your support.
Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation's mission is to alleviate hunger in metropolitan Chicago through distribution of high-quality food; education; advocacy; culinary arts and other employment training. They work extremely hard to keep overhead low and amazingly over 90% of donations to the Anti-Hunger Federation are used for programming.
Here is how your tax deductible donation can help:
- A $30 Donation can provide nutritious salads for 100 soup kitchens guests.
- A $50 Donation can furnish fresh fruits and vegetables to 10 families of 4 for a week.
- A $100 Donation can supply a pantry with 400 pounds of fresh produce for a month.
Donating through the GiveForward website is safe, secure and the easiest way to help.
Thank you so much for your generous contribution! It will make a huge difference in someone's life.
