Cheryl Washington Brantley will be receiving a kidney donated by her high school friend Linda! Join us in making this dream a reality!
Cheryl, who has lupus, has been in kidney failure for four years. Her high school friend, Linda will be donating a kidney to her friend within the next few weeks.
Cheryl, a former newspaper journalist who retired last year because of her health, is married to Mike Brantley. They are the parents of an 8-year-old daughter.
Without a transplant, Cheryl will die.
Linda's brother, creator of Disney's animated show Phineas and Ferb, was the featured guest at a recent fundraiser in Mobile. Dan, who was recently in town for his 30th high school reunion, was in the same class with Cheryl.
Former classmates and friends far and wide have asked what they can do to help. There are many uncovered expenses involved in these two surgeries. Please consider donating to help offset this expensive, yet life-saving procedure!
From Linda's amazing cousin Joey who recently donated a kidney to his sister Shannon: “Its been 17 months since donation and the only different feeling that it has given me is the sense that donation needs to be taught to everyone. i literally feel that not giving it would have made me feel horrible for the rest of my life. Its actually one of the easiest things i have ever done.”
Please consider giving. If you'd prefer to mail a check, a special account has been set up in Cheryl's name at Compass Bank. The account number is 2531144735.
God bless you.

The kidney transplant surgery will take place in a few days!
Linda and I are so excited to be embarking on this new journey -- which, for me, represents a second chance at life.
Who knew that a friendship that began more than 30 years ago (we went to high school together) would result in Linda's life-saving decision to donate a kidney? Not me, but that's exactly what this surgery will mean. Linda's selfless act will save my life and will enable me to be the wife and mother I've always wanted to be.
I was diagnosed with lupus more than 20 years ago. In the intervening years, I've had periods of good health and years of severe illness. There have been more close calls than I care to remember. Last year, my poor health caused me to retire from my career as a journalist at age 46.
My closest friends know what a struggle it's been.
And by now, most of our friends have heard the story of how Linda and I were reunited on Facebook a couple of years ago. When I found my friend through social media after a 20-year separation, I didn't realize I had found a second chance at a normal life, free of dialysis, chemotherapy and other treatments designed to keep the lupus at bay.
The childhood friend who shared my passion for music, our high school marching band and "Star Trek" re-entered my life just in the nick of time.
Most of my doctors agree that I could not continue to defy the odds and survive without a transplant.
I thank God for Linda and for all my wonderful friends -- old and new -- who have come into my life the past few years.
May He richly bless each and every person who has sowed such generosity, love and kindness into my life.
God bless you all,
Cheryl Washington Brantley
