Fundraising Tip of the Week #10: How to Get Your Story in the Media

posted on 03/15/2009 by

One good way to boost your fundraising totals is to get your story into the press.

Here’s how:

Prepare a short email with background information on why you are fundraising and make sure to include the link to your GiveForward personal fundraising page, as well as your contact information.

Once you’ve prepared the email, call up your local newspaper, radio or TV station and tell them you are fundraising for a good cause and that you would appreciate if they could help you out.

Tell them your story on the phone and then ask if you can send them a little more info in an email so they can pass it along to the appropriate editors.

Usually, this is all it takes.  If you ask nicely, most local newspapers will do a story on your fundraising efforts. read more…

It has been a long, windy road to launch, but we are finally here! For those of you who are familiar with our story already, you know that GiveForward was borne out of Desiree’s quarter-life-crisis and was built brick by virtual brick with the hard work and dedication of Ethan, our awesome team of interns, and the young but brilliant web development team, the Ocean Online Group.

Together, we took an idea and made it a reality in a little less than six months—a feat made possible by the simple fact that we bootstrapped our way with the help of our incredibly supportive friends and family. But there is nothing small about GiveForward now.

As you will see over the coming months, we have big plans to make GiveForward the easiest and most effective giving site on the web. We’ll be rolling out new features and services as our community grows, making it that much more fun for you to donate to or fundraise for your favorite cause or project.
