Shelters Overwhelmed By Influx of Glamour Pets

At GiveForward, one of the things we are most passionate about is giving a voice to those who can’t speak for themselves.  Today, we want to take a moment to talk about a trend that is leaving a number of innocent animals in harm’s way.

Due to recent attention on TV and by celebrity animal lovers, there has been a huge increase in demand for glamour pets, one in particular – Petite Lap Giraffes or PLGs.  This demand has prompted a response by the black market and PLG breeders have sprung up around the world.
These black market breeders have made it easier for people to make so-called ‘impulse purchases’ of the animals, without proper screening to find out whether the home will be a good fit.  Now, experts say they only expect the recent influx of PLGs at shelters to increase as the reality of the animal’s needs set in and owners decide they are not prepared for the responsibility.
The whole GiveForward team is full of animal lovers (except Michael, who has been known to occasionally snack on an endangered species) and we hope you will join the GiveForward staff in standing against this disturbing trend. To donate to the PLG fund, please click here.
