*Update* -- Bacon and Apple's mother passed away peacefully early yesterday, July 31 -- just one night after Bacon came home from the hospital and seven weeks after her diagnosis with stomach cancer. Please keep the family in your thoughts.

Bacon and Apple are two twin girls born in New York City in late June who have real, non-food names that we're keeping private. They were delivere healthy but prematurely when their  mother learned she had advanced cancer. Since then, she's been mostly at the hospital preparing to undergo chemo. The hospital is not close to this Brooklyn family's home, where Apple  has been home for almost two weeks (yeah!)  waiting for Bacon, who's coming home this week from the NICU (hooray!). As a result, the family has not been able to spend as much time together as they'd like to during this important time. 

Everyone who knows this well-traveled and well-loved family has been amazing -- sending flowers, baby registry items, hand-me-downs, food and most importantly, love. The family has been inspired and cheered by the love of awesome friends and family near and far.

Many people have asked what more they can do, and a few of us are asking the Network of Awesomeness to help this wonderful family right now. First and foremost, keep sending love.

Second, please consider helping us raise funds to help with the many new and unforeseen expenses cropping up. These funds would help with making this extraordinary situation more ordinary. They will go toward everything from temporary housing near the hospital so that the family can spend more time together, to baby nurse services and childcare, housekeeping and cat food for the three senior citizen kitties at home, and diapers and formula.
