MAPPAR is a domestic and farm animal sanctuary dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitative care, protection, and placement of abused, abandoned, neglected or otherwise displaced animals.

Midwest Animal & Potbellied Pig Association & Rescue, MAPPAR, was founded in 1998, and grew out of the need to care for all of the unwanted potbellied pigs from the late 80''s and early 90''s that people dumped because they no longer wanted, or could no longer properly care for the "yuppy puppy". MAPPAR provides care for all animals - farm, domestic, and exotics whose fates were grim. Midwest Animal & Potbellied Pig Association & Rescue is comprised entirely of volunteers who assist in the rescue, shelter, care, and rehoming of Potbellied Pigs, cats, dogs, and other farm and exotic animals when carefully screened homes are found. A great deal of MAPPAR''s efforts is directed at educating the public about the breed and the difficulties of living with and handling potbellied pigs, and specific animals. MAPPAR''s goal is to avoid animals ever ending up in an unwanted, neglectful home by educating people in what to expect BEFORE deciding to buy or adopt an animal.  MAPPAR seeks to help inform and educate folks in proper animal care and training. We educate the public in realizing that sharing your home with an animal is a lifelong commitment and responsibility, and animals that are a privilege NOT a right.
