The Rotaract Club of Chicago undertakes an International Service Project every year in partnership with one of our international clubs. This year, we are helping fund the building of an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a community hospital in the town of Itai, Brazil. Our goal is to fully fund all equipment to help create a fully functioning ICU!

Why give to this project? The town of Itai, with a population of 24,100 mostly rural residents, is in dire need of an ICU for its local community hospital. It is the only hospital in town and provides all services free of charge to local residents. Unfortunately, it is unable to serve critically ill patients, that need to be transferred to other cities, often causing complications and even death. Unfortunately, there is not enough funding from the public health system to fund the ICU, therefore the Rotary Club of Itai and the Rotaract Club of Chicago are working together to help raise money for this cause!

In addition to my involvement with the Rotaract Club of Chicago, Latin America is a very special place and is extremely close to my heart. I have been involved in many fundraising campaigns in college, but this one is especially important for improving the quality of life in a small town in Brazil. At the end of our project, the Rotaract team will undertake a service trip to Itai to personally contribute to the cause and help the community in its efforts.
