The family and friends of Oliver Tiongco are united to raise money to help him pay for the cost of surgery, medication and physical therapy.
All funds will be used for Oliver's medical treatments. Any monies raised and not applied to medical treatment at Weiss Memorial Hospital will be donated to another medical cause on GiveForward.com
Oliver was riding his bike in the bike lane, with his helmet and bike lights on Labor Day weekend when a car door suddenly swung open. He tried to swerve to avoid the door, but the driver didn't notice Oliver coming until it was too late. Oliver's front tire caught on the door and he went flying into the street. He fell on his elbow and hip. His hip is fine. His elbow is shattered.
Oliver is a server at Hamburger Mary's in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood and is on the path to become a yoga instructor. Like most people working in the service industry, Oliver doesn't have insurance. And we all know, as a server, one needs both hands and arms to be able to take orders, serve drinks and bring food to tables all while smiling.
When Oliver went to the Weiss Memorial ER, he was told he qualified for a sliding payment scale but it's still a lot of money, folks. More money than he will be making in the next 3-4 months, and remember, he still needs to cover his monthly expenses. He needs surgery to place a pin in his elbow so it works again. The cost of surgery, medication and physical therapy is going to run about $7,000. But how does he make money to cover this while he can't do his job?
Hamburger Mary's has been very kind and placed him as the host for the establishment but that's a huge decrease in his pay. He's now the incredible one-armed yoga instructor, focusing more in posture and technique now that he can only watch us with an eagle eye in yoga class.
Oliver did file a police report and we have secured legal counsel.
We figured we'd appeal to our friends and family to help Oliver in his time of need. Oliver really needs your help right now, so please, come together and make it happen!

We were able to raise over $1800 with the kind support and generosity of everyone who came out to enjoy the incredible three hour event Sandra Castro, Jeff Ramone, Oliver and I organized.
Thanks to all who came out to support Oliver. A heartfelt thanks of gratitude to the talented performers who make the show FABULOUS including Rogue DJ, Wak, Cruel Valentine, Fistarella, Bizarre Sally, Velicity Metropolis and Barbie Blanco!
A very special thank you to Ashley and Brandon Wright and Erika Wienke for donating Mary's Attic for our use, for the food and for being willing to do whatever we needed for the event. Thank you to Shane and Meredith for being the awesome bartender's they are. Thank you to Jacob Full, Kitchen Manager at Hamburger Mary's for the beautiful appetizer layout. And finally, a special shout out to Donna Martin and Angel Food Bakery for one of the most beautiful cakes any of us has ever seen.

We hope to see you at the Fundraiser benefit at Mary's Attic on October 10 at 6pm. We have tons of great acts like drag artists Velicity Metropolis and Barbie Blanco, fire spinning by Wak, burlesque by Girlie Q, music by the Windy City Rippers and hot tracks by Rogue DJ. Of course, we'll have drink specials on well and domestic beers as well as some light hors d'oeuvres.
There are also raffle prizes to be had! Like what, you say? Stuff from Green Genes, White Attic, Brumfield, A Taste of Heaven, Women and Children First, Necessary Xtravagance, The Joans, Urban Oasis, Eclecticity, Tweet Let's Eat, The Landmark, Chicago artist www.loosetooth.com and Chicago Art Department's Art Coordinator Stacey Petersen. These are but a selection among many other wonderful things that have been donated to the benefit.
We are asking a $15 donation at the door for all the entertainment you can get. We hope to see you there!

Thanks for the amazing generosity of all our friends, family and extended friends. We're getting close to breaking $1000 and that's exciting.
Keep your eyes open for an invite to the Sunday, October 10, 2010 Benefit event at Mary's Attic from 6pm to 9pm. We'll have burlesque, fire spinning, drag performances and raffle prizes... but really cool raffle prizes, so stay tuned!
